
“An incredible talent,” [American Salon Magazine] “An amazing creative genius,” [Salon Daily] “an industry trendsetter,” [Modern Salon] – these are terms used to describe Marylle Koken and her career as a hair artist. Born and raised in Holland and schooled in France, in 1995 at the age of 18 Marylle left the Netherlands to become a stylist and pursue her dream. She quickly established herself as a trendsetter and a rising star in the hair community. Within months she had raised through the ranks at Sebastian International from an apprentice to a full-scale stylist with a packed roster of clientele.
In 1997 Koken was promoted to Artistic Director on Sebastian’s International Artistic Team. She traveled extensively throughout the United States, Europe and Asia performing in hair shows and teaching seminars in the art of hairdressing. Her work on the team garnered her the respect of many within the industry, as exemplified in an issue of “Salon City” magazine in which Koken was referred to as, “One of the nations top performing media artists in hair making today.”
Along with Koken’s stint on Sebastian’s International team, she developed and helped brand the company’s Xtah product line, maintained the company’s hair collections from 2000 – 2004, styled Sebastian’s international advertising campaigns, worked with Mac cosmetics in styling their collection launches and fashion events all while creating inventive hairstyles for numerous high end industry fashion magazine shoots.With her busy schedule Koken continues salon work maintaining a large book of clients in Los Angeles. Her client list has included Jack Nicholson, Catherine Deneuve, Juliet Binoche, Claudia Schiffer, Jack Osbourne, Kimberly Stewart, Paris Hilton, “OC” star Melinda Clarke, Morrissey from The Smiths, The Germs, Nine Inch Nails and America’s Next Top Model.
In 2007 Koken began work on her largest undertaking to date – the creation of a cosmetics line to rejuvenate the hair and skin care profession. With this she aims to introduce in 2009 a series of unique educational seminars to help create a new vision for the beauty industry.
